Enter the room dimensions and the flooring type, and get the number of packs or square metres, the underlay, and the waste allowance for the way it lays. Carpet is worked in roll widths so off-cuts are realistic.

How it works out the quantities
- 1Area = length × width; L-shaped rooms are entered as two rectangles and summed.
- 2Plank and tile products come in packs with a stated m² per pack; the calculator divides and rounds up after waste.
- 3Waste: 7–10% for straight-laid planks, 15% for diagonal, 10% for tiles; carpet waste depends on roll width (4 m or 5 m) against room width.
- 4Underlay is by roll coverage; non-slip and commercial finishes are priced by m².
Site tips before you order
- Keep the pack count and batch number on the quote; a top-up pack from a different batch never matches.
- Door bars, trims, scotia and expansion gaps are extra lines, not in the pack count.
- Subfloor preparation (levelling, ply, moisture testing) is the part that goes wrong — price it separately.
- Carpet on stairs: allow for the nosing and count each step as a separate area.
Common questions
How many packs of laminate for a 5 m × 4 m room?
20 m² plus 10% waste = 22 m². With 2.2 m² per pack that's 10 packs; with 1.9 m² per pack, 12 packs.
How much waste for LVT laid diagonally?
Allow 15%. Herringbone LVT can be 20% or more depending on plank size.
How is carpet worked out?
By roll width — a 3.6 m wide room from a 4 m roll wastes 0.4 m across the whole length. The calculator uses roll widths so the figure matches what the supplier cuts.
Does it include underlay?
Yes — rolls of underlay from the area and roll size, plus an option for non-slip and commercial finishes by the m².
