Invoice Simple vs Invoice2go: which one for a tradesperson?

Invoice Simple and Invoice2go are close cousins. Both are mobile-first invoice apps for sole traders and small businesses, both have scored 4.8 out of 5 on the UK App Store, and both show their prices in US dollars on their own sites. For most tradespeople the choice comes down to two things: whether you need the domestic reverse charge on your invoices, and how many invoices you send.

Short answer. If you're a VAT-registered subbie invoicing main contractors, Invoice2go has a reverse-charge toggle and we couldn't find one in Invoice Simple, so Invoice2go is the better fit. If you send a handful of invoices a month and want the simplest app going, Invoice Simple is fine. If you run building projects with contracts, stage payments and variations, neither is built for that, and we'll come to it at the end.

The two apps in a paragraph each

Invoice Simple is a Vancouver-based invoicing and payments app for freelancers and small businesses, and it isn't trade-specific (Invoice Simple). Estimates are unlimited on every plan (Essentials), and "Quick Invoices with AI" builds an invoice from a short typed or spoken prompt (features).

Invoice2go was founded in Australia in 2002 (Wikipedia) and is owned by BILL, which announced the purchase in July 2021 (SEC filing). It's an invoicing and estimating app for sole traders and small contractors, sold as Starter, Professional and Premium plans (Invoice2go support).

Prices and invoice limits

Plan levelInvoice SimpleInvoice2go
EntryUS$6.99, 3 invoices a monthStarter, about 30 a year
MiddleUS$14.99, 10 a monthProfessional, about 100 a year
TopUS$21.99, unlimitedPremium, unlimited

Prices checked October 2026. Invoice Simple's figures are monthly prices from its pricing page, which shows US dollars. Invoice2go's pricing page says "Plans starting at $5.99 per month", but the copy we could see was about six months old.

In pounds, a UK comparison site, mobiletransaction.org, reported around January 2026 that Invoice2go Starter was £4.99 a month, Professional £7.99 (or £6.67 a month billed annually) and Premium £29.99 (or £25 a month billed annually). The same site lists smaller monthly invoice allowances on Starter and Professional than the table above, so check the limit before you pick. We couldn't confirm those pound prices on Invoice2go's own site, and we couldn't confirm Invoice Simple's UK prices in pounds at all. Neither app states a VAT basis on the pages we found. Look in the App Store on your phone.

One structural difference, if the vendor figures hold: Invoice Simple caps you per month, while Invoice2go's pricing page talks in invoices per year, so a busy month bites harder on Invoice Simple. Check which applies to the plan you're buying. A price tracker, PricingSaaS, also reported that Invoice Simple's Plus and Premium went up around late June 2026, from $13.49 to $14.99 and from $19.99 to $21.99 a month (PricingSaaS).

Card fees on a real invoice

Both apps take card payments, and the fees differ. Invoice Simple's UK fee schedule shows 2.90% + £0.30 per payment, though that schedule is dated January 2024 (fee schedule). Invoice2go's Stripe fees for UK cards drop as you move up the plans: 2.4% + 20p on Starter, 2.1% + 20p on Professional and 1.9% + 20p on Premium (Invoice2go card fees).

On an illustrative £3,000 final invoice for a bathroom refit, paid by card:

  • Invoice Simple: £87 + £0.30 = £87.30.
  • Invoice2go Starter: £72 + £0.20 = £72.20.
  • Invoice2go Premium: £57 + £0.20 = £57.20.

Invoice Simple does let you pass the card fee on to your client, which changes the sum if your clients will wear it.

"Not found" means we searched in October 2026 and found nothing, which isn't proof the feature is missing.

Invoice2go has one more trick a tradesperson will like: you can add a deposit request to an estimate, as a percentage or a fixed sum, and once the client pays it the estimate turns into an invoice by itself (deposit requests).

Reviews and the common complaints

The complaints rhyme. Reviewers of both mention price rises and trouble cancelling. On Invoice Simple, recurring Trustpilot complaints are billing that carried on after cancelling and slow refunds. On Invoice2go, one reviewer says their annual price went from $35.99 to $53.98, and Trustpilot reviewers report auto-renewals and invoices deleted or zeroed after saving. Trustpilot also shows Invoice2go hasn't replied to its negative reviews.

Which one, then

  • VAT-registered subbie doing reverse-charge work: Invoice2go, for the reverse-charge toggle with its tax note.
  • Already on an accounting package: Invoice2go, which lists integrations with QuickBooks, Xero, FreeAgent and MYOB (FreeAgent integration).
  • A few invoices a month and you want it dead simple: Invoice Simple.
  • You want a deposit paid before you start: Invoice2go's deposit request does that and converts the estimate for you.
  • You need the client to sign a contract: neither builds one, though Invoice2go links to SignRequest or Esignly for e-signatures.

When neither fits

Both apps are built around the invoice. We couldn't find CIS deductions, variations or take-off from drawings in either. If you're pricing a loft conversion with stage payments, extras and a CIS subbie, you're past what an invoice app is for.

EstiMate prices the job, sends a quote link where the client can accept, decline or pick optional extras, turns the accepted quote into a contract they sign online, tracks variations, invoices the stages with a pay-online link and keeps the CIS register. It's £15.99 a month per business, and there's more on the invoice side at construction invoicing software. Our Invoice Simple alternative and Invoice2go alternative posts go into each app properly, and the best invoicing apps roundup covers the UK tax side across nine apps.

What to do next

  1. Count last year's invoices and your busiest month. That tells you which plan you'd actually need.
  2. If you do reverse-charge work, send yourself a test reverse-charge invoice before you commit.
  3. Check the price in pounds in the App Store, not the dollar figure.
  4. If you run projects rather than call-outs, try EstiMate's free plan alongside: three jobs a month, no card, no time limit. The quote link, contracts and invoicing start on the £15.99 plan.
